    A few class ideas

Here are a few class suggestions

    The spy-guy
Fast, with low hp and armor
Equipment: Silenced Pistol w/ scope, grapple hook?,camera?, explosives

    The soldier dude
The standard frontline soldier, pretty high hp and armor
Equipment: Assault rifle, pistol, grenades, binoculars*, barbed wire?

    * I had an idea of letting the soldier being able to mark what he is looking at with his binos, which then will be viewable for team mates. Something like: The solider looks at a building in the distance, which is full of enemies. He marks it, and all team mates know that there are enemies there. This would be good for aircrafts, which then easily would bomb that house.

    The anti-vehicle man
The heavy guy against vehicles, some fat dude with much hp.
equipment: some kind of rocket launcher, pistol, mines, grenades, maybe a weapon against aircrafts...

    The Engineer
The nerd, who is skilled with technical stuff. Medium Armor/ HP
    Equipment :Shotgun, pistol, camera?
Abilities: Being able to somehow manipulate enemy cameras, repair vehicles, build turrets? (not the auto-shooting ones like in Team Fortress), build vehicles?

Some other classes that the game might need: Medic, sniper and a headless chicken.

    Thats it for now

    Re: A few class ideas

I like some of the ideas, your thoughts will definitely be taken into consideration when we finalise our own list.

In normal Crysis you don't have to choose a kit, you can customize; which means that in reality no-one uses the kits. For your ideas to work you would have to force a kit choice.

I like the idea of being able to spot enemy units, it makes it much easier to work as a team if spotted players are marked on the map. I thought that we could also add the option of adding a number to your "spotting" e.g. You click like normal but on right click you get a list of numbers (1,2+,5+,10+) there would be a different audio alert for each number and the number would be marked on the map next to the infantry spotted icon.

Eventually I would like to replace the Crysis Communications bar with a new one which is easier to use, it would probably be like the Battlefield system.

    Re: A few class ideas

    Nice.

If you dont like the kit-system, you could also do it like in crysis. You choose your weapons, and skills. The heavier weapons you choose, the slower you will be etc. That would be pretty cool. You could make your own hybrid class by chosing skills or abilities and weapons, like the "rocket-laucher medic", or the "stealth-engineer". Actually, if this system would work, it would be extremely cool

If you would implement a system that works with points or so. Every player has 20 points which he can spend as he/she wants. Better weapons and skills will take more points.
To make it more clear, lets say I customize my player like this:

    Shotgun: takes 4 points
    Pistol: takes 2 points
2 medi packs: takes 10 points
    body armor: takes 4 points

    4+2+10+4=20

This would use all of my 20 points, and I could not equip more, or get any other skills. A bit like the Prestige in Crysis, just that you won't get more than these 20 points. Advancing in rank could unlock more weapons or skills.

There might me some imba combinations though, but I'm sure they can get fixed

    Re: A few class ideas

Personally I prefer the kit system, with a few heavy weapons such as sniper rifles and deployable mortars in racks in the HQ, so theres a limit on the number out at one time. The alternative way of doing it is if we implemented a squad system (not first release) then we could make one of each heavy weapon available to a squad.

    Re: A few class ideas

With the spotting and marking system, I think only Airships, weapon emplacements and maybe some other things could be marked. Otherwise it could be a bit strange having individual troopers marked.

Although having spots on the ground marked could be cool, for calling in barrages. You could research and use the best WW1 artillery tactics, which were varied and useful.

    Re: A few class ideas

I think it would be good if the mark was only short lived. Say 5 seconds, it wouldn't follow the enemy just mark on the map where someone spotted something. You could also have a "possibly spotted enemy" for when your unsure. Vehicles, occupied buildings (like a town house), snipers, MG emplacements and artillery would have separate spotting logos and a longer map icon.

Airships I don't think should be spotted on a map, but perhaps you should be able to shout something like "under aerial attack here" and mark YOUR location. Airships move to much fast to be really worth spotting on a map.

*karma to NoDe for having such good ideas!*

I do prefer the class/kit system rather than a customisable loadout... the class system is a bit more realistic i think...

    Re: A few class ideas

Its much more realistic your right, I suggest we have customization inside the kits, but the weapons available depends on your kit. Rather like BF2142. Otherwise you have someone carrying a sniper rifle, an SMG, C4 and wearing heavy armor- which is just insane.

I agree with the general class consensus.

This could also add really cool last stands: "Fire on my position! Just do it darn it!"

Like the idea! You'd need a good voice actor to get the correct desperation into the voice but its a good idea. The use of artillery is going to be key to winning matches, so good and easy communication to artillery is going to be an important development.
