    Paratroopers and Healing

OK, I did some research on the 6th Airborne division that landed in Normandy during WW2

I got this from the front page -

The men of the 6th Airborne Division landed in occupied France, the first Allied soldiers to breach the Atlantic Wall. These soldiers held the Allied left flank in continuous combat for more than three months, suffering 4431 casulties.
    - 6th-airborne.org

They Captured Pegasus bridge and Repelled a German Armored counter attack with a single PIAT round (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank) The Germans overestimated the Power of the Lightly armed paratroopers so they retreated. Giving them time to consolidate due to the scattered landing of the paratroopers.

If you are including Paratroopers Please include these guys in your Mod.

Next on my mind is how will healing be handled?

I was thinking along the lines of Identify your wounded comrade problem then treat it realistically. For example:

Your buddy got knocked out by a blunt end of a weapon lets say a rifle butt.
You need to treat him with smelling salts and if he has any open wound on his head use bandages to fix it.
Of course you wont have an infinite supply of Medical equipment. So Identifying your buddy's Injury will be key to not wasting medical supplies.

Just a thought what about CPR to Revive Critically wounded teammates. It is only an thought but could it be implemented?

    Welcome to forums .

Pegasus Bridge will be in the mod, there will indeed be paratroopers in the mod, but when is another story . I would like to comment on this further but can't right now.

We haven't worked out healing completely yet, but it probably won't be so extravagant. Least wise the plan for the first release and following releases is to issue every soldier the bandage.

The British bandage can be found in this update:

Update #12: Fire Support - Traction Wars Community

Once the soldier takes a hit he would throw his one bandage down to heal himself. Once again, things will dramatically change in some areas of the mod over time, and one of those areas will probably be the healing method, but for the first release especially we are planning to just use the method I spoke about above.

I myself find it quite obvious that two researchers know about what divisions fought in Normandy. The 6th Airborne was the only British airborne to land in Normandy so if a paratrooper map with the British get included it's obviously them.

As Apple stated, the first version will include bandages which you will wrap around yourself, throwing looks a bit too retarded if you ask me. Maybe also morphine to get some temporarily health (like the pills in Left 4 Dead).

Glad to hear that Pegusus Bridge will be in the mod as well as the paratroopers

As for the healing glad to hear that it could change. I am more of an Realism focused person but still I can't Wait for this mod

as for the Morphine bit that would defiantly take the edge off of the bandage bit.

One thing that should be noted was they were not paratroopers who landed at Pegasus, but gliderbourne. That is a fact that will be represented.

    Welcome to the forum Benjamin.

As the others have already said Pegasus Bridge will indeed be featured in the mod, how the paratroopers are implemented is something we're going to sit on for the timebeing however as it was the Gliderbourne who landed at Pegasus.

The renders above were released back in News Update #8

On the matter of the healing - a realistic system as you describe is something I personally would like to see but it is one of those areas of the mod which will be enhanced through the chapters. If we were to polish everything to the complexity and realism we aspire to do eventually for first release - it would delay OVERLORD by a great deal.

I would be interested to hear more about your idea for health - as so far they're very good ones

EDIT: Mudra you beat me to it on the Gliderbourne! - That will teach me not to make cups of tea in the middle of a post

Yeah and one glider landed within yards of the target.

    In Response to General Naga

Sure I would be more than happy to talk about some ideas for the TWMod, in terms of health that is.

But first, This just came to mind

I was thinking about a bleed-out system. If you get so low on health you just collapse and you start to bleed out left 4 dead style. just when an bullet hits you in specific areas (Head, Legs, Chest, etc.) you become harder to heal and you start to bleed out faster.

Yes, you get the bandages for that, to fix that area up so you can continue fighting without health loss/mobility loss.

Assume people haven't played L4D - as otherwise some people won't know what you mean

I like the idea of that but why a specific region? Wouldn't any hit by bullet or shrapnel cause extra bleeding? Although the amount of extra bleeding would depend on where you were hit...

Basically What i was saying was If you are hit in a critical area Such as the heart or the legs(basically places that have allot of major veins and arterys)

Plus from what the little i know about guns and trauma is that the bullet usually goes straight through unless it hits bone. If it hits bone it starts to bounce inside the person so to speak.

As for the left 4 dead style kind of bleeding out. The Screen goes slowly black as you start to die of blood loss. It could start off as a haze kind of look and slowly go black.

Here look at this picture it should give you an idea of major arterys inside the human body. The bigger they are the more blood they carry.
