    OpenID

    Anyone else using it?

Link [here]... I've had one for a while, but not many popular sites seem to use it; certainly not facebook/flickr/etc... Which is kinda weird (flickr at least), since yahoo! (which owns flickr) actually provides the things. That said, there's talk of implementing openID on flickr, so there's hope yet. I've been rather hoping google would start providing them as well, or perhaps facebook (since it's pretty much a complete online identity these days anyway).

Reason I bring it up is I recently was forced to actually sign up for a yahoo! account, much to my annoyance. I was all "Why can't I use my google account? Nay, I have openID!" and there was much ranting. It wasn't pretty.

EDIT: ps. you guys should totally get openID on the forums. Would save people having to create *yet another* account to sign up here.

It's an interesting idea, although personally I wouldn't want my security for all my logins resting with one central password. If there is a large demand for OpenID here at Traction Wars then we would consider implementing it.

    Re: OpenID

I wasn't being terribly serious about you guys implementing it; would be a lot of work for very little return.

Part of the point to having all your login info centralised is that you can actually claim ownership of things in a much more authoritative fashion than ever before - since accounts on multiple websites are tied to the same identity. You're probably right about the security risk, but hang on, hold the phone: Passwords are almost impossible to crack these days, so long as they're stored in a secure format... With the advent of md5, sha etc, there's really no excuse for losing your customers' passwords.
