hell yeah! people be going crazy tonight!
I just got home from work, I work for a local TV news station in Eastern Iowa, and let me tell you it was craaaaazy!
First thing we heard was that Obama was going to deliver a special address from the Blue Room and that it had to due with national security. You know when its 930pm on a sunday night and your only given an hours notice that its taking place its going to be HUGE, and huge it was. I can't wait till the particulars come out on the operation.
The first I heard about it was a retweet from the MoD from the ISAF media account. Nice job America is what I say - your not the only nation who had him #1 on their wanted list
I'm quite interested to know the details of the operation and I'm curious to why they weren't able to take him into custody. Personally I'd like to have seen him on trial so due process could be observed but the result would have been the same in the end. A military operation for the textbooks?
Glad to see him gone but was it all worth it?
3000 died at 9/11.
3000 soldiers died in Afghanistan.
But we got Bin Laden!
Maybe I'm too cynical/pessimistic for this kind of stuff.
America Wins.
Good riddance to Osama Bin Laden, he deserved what he got.
Before Afghanistan is peaceful we are into it another 10/15 years. I'll toast on the fallen. It's May 4th soon anyways.
The point of invading Afghanistan was not to kill a proportional amount of "enemies." It was to dismantle a terrorist organization that continues to be a threat, and has been a threat to many countries for over two decades. Their attacks are well documented and Al Qaeda well publicizes the fact that they are responsible.
The goal was also to eliminate the Taliban, which at the time controlled Afghanistan for five years and supported and harbored Al Qaeda. There is no magical number you can put on the overall goal. You can't say 3000 Alliance troops killed, 3000 Terrorists killed, hey we're even lets go home! A war to simply kill people is a folly and needs a wider scope, but points to an ultimate goal.
Iraq is a different kettle all together.
