    New British Prime Minister

    BREAKING NEWS

Conservative leader David Cameron is the new UK prime minister after the resignation of Gordon Brown.
Mr Cameron, 43, has left Buckingham Palace after formally accepting the Queen's request to form a government.
Quite an unexpectedly sudden change of events - there is a new British Prime Minister 5 days after the General Election.

Please don't make this a political discussion - its just news

So hes a placeholder? I really the liberal-democrats need to stand up now.

Well goodbye to the socialists. They are disappearing in every country, our 'red' government fell, your 'red' government fell.

Not sure how much you know about what's been going on across the water but basically the election resulted in no clear majority and until now the Conservatives (Cameron's party and largest) and the Liberal Democrats (smallest major party) have been in talks to form a coalition government.

That now looks like it's happening so for the first time in about 30 years Britain has a coalition government and not a single ruling party.

The old PM Gordon Brown resigned because his position was no longer tenable and he wanted to resign before he had to - hence the sudden nature of this. It's worth noting that in the British Parliament if there is no clear majority after an election the current PM and government continue until someone has a sufficient majority to replace them. Not sure how it works elsewhere where you use proportional representation.

Haha really? Didn't know that - just show how little that sort of thing bothers us the fact no-one has mentioned it in the election

Very good news in my opinion, the labour government was getting a little stale and change is very refreshing to the country. Glad I voted conservative .
