    Ingame Map

    The issue of minimaps etc.. is always a difficult one so I'll kick off the discussion with a few pointers about what we have to consider.

    The four basic options are:[list type=decimal][*]Having a minimap but not showing teammates on it - but having them on the fullscreen map (unrealistic)[*]Having team-mates visible on the minimap (very unrealistic)[*]Having only a full screenmap (realistic)[*]Having only a full screenmap and no teammates marked on it (very realistic)[/list]

    well we have to consider what do the public want, becasue if ff is on and you dont have a minimap where your team shows up, there could be alot of teamkills.

    But are we going for a realistic feel to the game then?

    Well that's why I created this thread - so the public can make their views heard.

    As much realism as possible without creating a game where you struggle to play it because you don't have enough HUD info & walk everywhere etc...

    I would have to vote for 2. Though it is very unrealistic it would increase the chances of players actually working as a team because they would know where their team is. Furthermore, it would be kind to new players because they would get an understanding of where they have to go; where the rest of the team is.

    I wouldnt mind having a map with only members in your immediate section visible. I think in real life it would be easy to keep track of and confirm the location of you own people, so for the sake of gameplay > realism, lets see where are squad mates are.

    So you saying you wouldn't mark all your team-mates only your squad-mates?

    There is of course also another method if you are willing to code it.
    Minimaps could be a serverside option.
    That way serveradmins can decide whether they want a realistic or super-realistic server.
    We will code many choices as serverside options for Panzercrysis.

    Hadn't thought of that - A great idea having the realism of the server controlled server side. Although perhaps grouping the options into some categories to help keep things on the straight and narrow.

    @ Naga: Yes only squad mates.

    @ monkwarrior: I'd be careful making the options server side, maybe its me but wouldnt you want all the servers running the mod to be uniform?

    Why would you want that ?
    So many people, so many tasts.
    Of course I would release the mod with certain default values, so servers could use the term "authentic server" , but offering choices is one of the most effective ways of binding all sorts of players to your mod.
