I felt rather annoyed at the old description; it's flat, rather silly and still hasn't been punctuated.* So I wrote a new one.
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
- The Hollow Men, TS Eliot, 1925
The poet was wrong.
Our modern, civilised world died in fire and noise, in the unimaginable horror of the Sixty Minute War.* America was reduced to a slagged wasteland of molten, radioactive glass in less than an hour, while orbital lasers reached down from the heavens and wiped China from the map.* The world fell into a long winter of techno-barbarism with disparate tribes waging war on each other with technology they did not fully understand.* Only a few names remain from that dark era; the Lazarus Brigade, the Icelandic Empire, Vangiz the Terrible...
From the end of this era arose the first of the Traction Cities, London, proposing a new philosophy; that of Municipal Darwinism.* The stronger cities would consume the weaker ones, and use them to enhance themselves, honing their design, until only the fittest would survive, to herald in a new era of prosperity.* A harsh new ecosystem of iron and concrete evolved, from the ziggurat-cities of South America to the Great Hunting Ground of what was called Asia.* But some refused to move their cities, and these people, contemptuously called "Mossies" by the dwellers of the land leviathans, banded together to form the Anti-Tractionist League, and they managed to hold the disparate Traction Cities to a stalemate, and an uneasy peace formed.
But that peace is broken.* Now London is dead, destroyed by the malfunction of MEDUSA, an archeotech device they were using to destroy entire cities, and the Anti-Tractionist League controlled by a group of radicals, the Green Storm, who wish to return the Earth to a green, primitive state, a vision incompatible with the existence of moving cities.* Now the vast resources of the Green Storm bulk up a fragile trench line, stuffed with conscipts and defended by their great air-fleets of zepplins and massive artilery pieces, while the now-unified Traction Cities throw vast armies at them, escorted by their new heavier than air flying machines, hoping to punch through and pillage the undefended centre.* Now even the dead cannot rest easy, for the Green Storm, using a form of technological necromancy, resurrect their fallen soldiers as Stalkers, soulless automata which use a human body, but lack the weaknesses.
This is a fight between two sides who cannot back down, for each side threatens the other's rational to exist.* The Traction Cities fight to keep their homes, working against a Green Storm who would wipe them from the face of the earth, while the messianic, inhuman leader of the Green Storm, the Stalker Fang, knows that the world must be built afresh, with the damage humanity has caused removed.* Will you take up the call to arms that both sides issue?* This war must end!
Yes, please, and maybe replace the identical copies on the various mod sites that link to us.* I mean, having a misspelt promotional poster is not a good thing for initial impressions.
I like it, although perhaps not the last bit about ending the war, perhaps it should be able winning the war. Anyway, the reason the original one was that length, was because it has to be that length. So if you want to make a shortened version, il put it up on mod-db.
PS. Yes I did write the original one, It isnt perfect but theres no need to be rude - im talking to you ES
